With the onset of coalition negotiations, a number of organizations and public figures are calling upon the right-wing parties to include application of sovereignty in Judea and Samaria in the fundamental guidelines of the government, thereby realizing the wish of the majority in Israel.

Under the leadership of the Sovereignty Movement, a group consisting of organizations and leaders and residents of the communities in Judea and Samaria sent today a letter to the members of the Knesset of the emerging coalition calling for inclusion of the application of Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria in the fundamental guidelines of the next government.

After expressing congratulations for the achievement of the right-wing camp in the recent elections, the signatories of the letter to the MKs called upon them: “We are appealing to you now, as negotiations over the formation of the next coalition are beginning, to fulfill the historic dream of the Jewish people and apply Israeli sovereignty over their homeland. Demand and take action to include application of Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria in the fundamental guidelines of the next government.”

Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar, co-chairwomen of the Sovereignty Movement, who drafted the letter and are spearheading the initiative, note that “in the recent election campaigns, application of sovereignty became a repeated promise voiced by leaders of the Right. The leaders of the camp understood that the people of Israel wanted to realize the vision and dream of Israeli sovereignty over the entire country, and, as a result, they made application of sovereignty an inseparable part of their ideological platform. The people had their say and expressed support for the proponents of the sovereignty vision. The time has now come to fulfill that promise. A right-wing government is being established, and in order for the people to, indeed, have their wish and desire fulfilled, the leaders must include in the fundamental guidelines of the government the vision of applying sovereignty in Judea and Samaria.”

The two emphasize and add that “the political leadership should not suffice with the mere inclusion of sovereignty in the fundamental guidelines. We will be vigilant to ensure that genuine steps will, indeed, be taken to realize the vision and to actualize the will of the people. The people of Israel expect a leadership that will lead and constitute a real impetus for the realization of the Zionist vision.”

Katsover and Matar also state that “in contrast to the proposals raised in the past, the right-wing Knesset members must ensure that the steps toward sovereignty will be advanced without Israeli consent to the establishment of a Palestinian state in the Land of Israel.”
