The Lag ba-Omer Bonfire Burns Brightlyat Eitam
Theplentiful rains that poured down this last winter opened deep pits on the wayleading to Eitam. Jeeps brought people up the hill, the Eitam hill. This isEfrat’s eighth hill, that looks out on Jerusalem and all Gush Etzion, and thatwaits for 2,500 housing units to be built on it.
TheEitam hill was decorated for the holiday: dozens of flags were all aroundthe hill, and chairs and mats were spread out by the bonfire.
RabbiBaruch Efrati, a member of the Committee for the Development of Eitam, therabbi of the Zayit Raanan synagogue in Efrat, and head of the Shvut Yisraelyeshivah, spoke of the power of Rabbi Shimon bar Yohai and of the importance ofaction.
RabbiShmuel Zivan played music, sang, and told stories, together with the KabbalistRabbi Dror Giladi.
EfratLocal Council member Dovi Schefler related to those present the history of theEitam hill since the time of King Solomon, with the expectation to findarchaeological discoveries when construction begins of the neighborhood of2,500 housing units, that will, G-d willing, turn Efrat into the capital ofGush Etzion.
TheLag ba-Omer bonfire on Eitam kindled, in the hearts of the scores of residentsfrom Efrat, Jerusalem, Kiriat Arba-Hebron, and Gush Etzion, an awareness of theimportance of the Eitam hill and the need to continue going up to the hill withthe demand to begin construction on it.
Thecelebration was complete, with the potatoes, the marshmallows that came fromthe bonfire charred and irresistible, the hot pizzas, and the sage teaprepared on the hill somewhat warmed people’s bodies against the strong windthat blew at Eitam.
Theevent was organized by the Committee for the Development of Eitam and the Womenin Green movement, with the assistance of the Efrat Local Council.
Thepublic is invited to take part in the activities held on Eitam on Fridays.
“We willcertainly go up, and we shall gain possession of it, for we shall surelyovercome it” (Numbers 13:30)!
