Clinging to our Roots in Memory of the Youths

This Friday we will plant a boulevard of  Chai (18) trees in Oz veGaon

On the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Oz veGaon Preserve, the Jewish hold on the Land of Israel continues to hit roots and become stronger together with you and thanks to you.

Our return to Oz veGaon, which, before we came was an abandoned place of Arab crime and terror, occurred on the night when the murder of the three abducted youths became known. On that gloomy night, we gathered, both young people and adults, and chose to carry out a Zionist response to heinous Arab terror that seeks to chase us from our Land. We named the place Oz veGaon after the boys (Gaon-Gil-Ad, Eyal  and Naftali hy”d)

The preserve, which overlooks the place from which the three were abducted, has become a source of Jewish and Zionist pride, a symbol of Jewish attachment to the Land of Israel, and since then, tens of thousands of youths from all parts of the Land and even from abroad, have taken part in the preservation and maintenance of the place, carrying out Zionism with their own hands, weeding, striking new paths and in a very practical way, establishing the vision of the generations – the return of the People of Israel to its Land.

The activity in the preserve continues to attract many youths who take part in educational Zionist activities, have discussions and activities focusing on Jewish, Zionist values, hear and cause others to hear, the echoing sound of contemporary Zionism, thus bringing the message to the entire Jewish People. The activity of maintaining the preserve is expanding and with it, the strengthening of our hold on the Holy Land. The preserve continues and will continue thanks to all of you to spread its light and restore the Zionist vision to practicality. We already have a Zionist library, a Zionist boulevard, Zionist singing benches and more…

Now, with the fulfillment of five years since the return to the hill, five years since the abduction and murder of the sons, this coming Friday (the 2nd of Tamuz, July 5th, 2019)

we will inaugurate a new memorial garden and plant a boulevard with Hai (18) mature trees that will welcome visitors to the place which, since its founding, has represented a living monument in commemoration of the three youths.

In a moving ceremony, together with the families of the boys, we will unveil the new memorial garden with three large boulders that were brought in especially for this purpose and have the names of the three engraved upon them. Additionally, we will present at the preserve, a special boulder in memory of Ezra Schwartz, hy”d, the yeshiva student who was murdered as he made his way to volunteer at the preserve with his friends from the Ashreinu yeshiva.

In anticipation of the event, we call on you to join us in this new initiative of commemoration. The expense of the new memorial garden and planting the Hai Boulevard of trees is high and therefore we are raising funds in multiples of 10 times Hai (180, 360, 540, and so on) dollars/shekels.

Dear friends, thanks to your donations our hold on the Land of Israel is gaining strength. We would love to see you at the event itself, planting the trees of the Boulevard together with us, but even if it is difficult for you to come and plant, you can donate  and we will plant trees on your behalf in memory of the sons, for the future generations.

The event will be attended by Head of Gush Etzion Council Mr. Shlomo Ne’eman, Rav Ya’akov Medan, Head of the Har Etzion Yeshiva, Iris Yifrah and Racheli Frenkel, Dr. Eyal Davidson and musician Amihai Koppel. There will also be creative activities for the children led by Sarah Bloch.

The program is attached together with pictures of the building of the memorial garden and the digging of holes towards the planting of the trees on Friday.
