The Flag of the Jordanian Legion That Was Lowered from the Jordanian Camp in Kfar Etzion
Immediately upon Our Return to Gush Etzion on 29 Iyyar Was Put on Display at Netzer

At the conclusion of the fascinating lecture by Yisrael Shadiel of Kfar Etzion on the return to Kfar Etzion, Moshe Brandwein of Elazar took from his pocket a Jordanian flag that he showed to those present: “This is the flag of the Jordanian Legion that we took down in Kfar Etzion.” Everyone was greatly moved. Yisrael Shadiel, who works in the Kfar Etzion archive, asked to keep the flag.

The lecture by Yisrael Shadiel, who was in his mother’s womb during the evacuation from Kfar Etzion in 1948, told the marvelous story of the return to Gush Etzion to those who came to Netzer. Rabbi Hanan Porat began the move, and Rabbi Levinger attended to the practical side of matters by enlisting Bentz Heineman, the idealist and man of action, and thus the resettlement of the Gush began.

The disagreement as to whether or not there had been a government decision, too, was resolved in this lecture. Yisrael, who is knowledgeable in all the details, said that the decision came from Prime Minister Levi Eshkol, who consented to the request by the returning children and activists to pray in Kfar Etzion on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
“Fine, kinderlakh [children], go up there for Rosh Hashanah,” and since then praying and the work of redeeming Gush Etzion has continued.

After the lecture, those at Netzer acted to redeem another piece of land by planting olive trees on a new plot, adjoining the Biar Aqueduct.

Following the declaration by Salam Fayyad of the planting of ten million saplings in Area C lands, it was decided to intensify the plantings at Netzer and to organize a work camp for the youth, in order to prevent the Arab takeover of state lands. We repeat our call to all the communities in Judea and samaria to take action to defend the state lands by planting, building, asserting a presence, hikes, and similar activities. Those interested can call the undersigned, who direct the Yibaneh Fund.

On Friday, May 21, at 9:00 a.m., Aryeh Klein will lecture on Bar Kokhba, with a tour of the cave next to Migdal Oz.
