Dear Friends,
In yesterday’s Parsha (Torah portion) of Lekh-Lekha we read different versions of G-d’s promise to Abram:
In chapter 13 verse 14,15 it says:
“And the Lord said to Abram….,Lift up now thy eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward; for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed forever”.
In chapter 13 verse 17 on the other hand it is written:
“Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it, for I will give it to thee”.
The question arises: how come in one place G-d promises the Land of Israel to Abram and his seed forever and in another place G-d only promises it to Abram.
Simha Raz who wrote a book on the Parshat Hashavua, quotes Rabbi Yaakov Duchinsky who gives the following explanation:
G-d gave the vision and the promise of the land of Israel to Abram and to his seed; i.e. to all the generations to come. But the actual fighting for the Land and the actual physical keeping of the Land has to be repeated by every generation. It is not enough to have the general vision and promise. Every generation will only keep the land if they arise, walk through all of the land, settle it, build it, protect it and work hard to pass it on the next generation, who in its turn will also need to fight to keep it. It is every generation’s duty to do so.
This little Torah explanation is very suitable for what is going on in Israel today.
The past generation has fought to return to the land of Israel, has created the State of Israel, and has settled its Land. But the new generation of Israeli leaders are corrupt and are spitting in the face of all those who paid in blood to return to the Jewish homeland. This corrupt leadership is now planning on giving away to the Arab enemy Israel’s Biblical homeland, including Jerusalem .
It is the obligation of the Jewish people in Israel and abroad to fight against those evil plans which are a direct defiance of G-d’s commandments.
The struggle has to be for keeping the entire Land of Israel with Jerusalem at its center. It is not enough to focus the struggle around Jerusalem. Yes, Jerusalem is the heart. But the heart beats in a body and that body needs to be healthy and strong. In the struggle against the Annapolis Conference the outcry and outrage must be about the entire Land of Israel. The message must be: NOT ONE INCH!!! We do not agree to give away even a millimeter of the Land of Israel, not in Judea, not in Samaria and not in Jerusalem for the entire Land of Israel belongs to the People of Israel.
Women in Green call upon all to take part in the different activities, in Israel and abroad, that will take place in the next few weeks to prevent the Annapolis Conference disaster.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23rd, 2007 at 10:00am
JERUSALEM, PARIS SQUARE (in front of Prime Minister’s Olmert residence)
Women in Green will hold a vigil under the banner:
“OLMERT IS DANGEROUS FOR THE JEWS”
We will hand out bumper stickers that say “Olmert is dangerous for the Jews” and “The land of Israel belongs to the People of Israel”.
We encourage our friends in Israel and abroad to organize such vigils in your areas too. Send us by email your name, and full address and we will send you the bumper stickers by mail. If you organize a vigil in your area, tell us about it and we will post the details so others can join.
According to all the polls, the majority of the Israeli People oppose Olmert’s plans. But it is not enough to read about this in the polls. We must create an atmosphere in the country against Olmert, against the creation of a PLO state and in favor of keeping the Land of Israel in Jewish hands. That will only succeed if each and one of us agrees to take some time out of their daily schedule and will agree to stand at major intersections holding posters and handing out bumper stickers and material. The more of an anti-Olmert atmosphere we manage to create, the more successful our protests can become.
With Love of Israel,
Ruth and Nadia Matar
