Friday, the Tenth of Tevet, in Shdema
This coming Friday, December 13 th , is the fast of the Tenth of Tevet, the “general kaddish day” for the victims of the Shoa. We will hear a lecture by Yochi Shimon on the “Kinder Transport”.
The Kindertransport was a rescue mission of Jewish children that took place during the nine months prior to the outbreak of the Second World War. After the devastation of Kristallnacht, in November 1938, pressure was put on different countries to accept Jewish refugees from countries where they were in danger like Germany, Austria and Chekoslovakia.
Great pressure was put especially on the British who controlled immigration to Erets Yisrael. Britain was asked to allow 10,000 Jewish children to enter Erets Israel but Britain did not want to harm its relationship with the Arabs, and refused. Instead it allowed the children into Britain.
In the US, Congress rejected a bill to admit 20,000 Jewish children under the age of 14 into the United States from Nazi Germany.
Yochi Shimon, resident of Alon Shvut in Gush Etzion, will bring the personal story of one of these children who were in the Kinder Transport.
An important lecture not to be missed.
In case the weather forecast will come true and we will be blessed with snow, the lecture will be postponed to another date.
